Hold and Wait!

Horsemanship Tip!

In a recent clinic, I was teaching my riders a technique called "Hold and Wait" while demonstrating neutral lateral bend. This means we allow the horse time to soften, rather than being quickly pulled around. The goal is to allow it to be the horse's idea to bend. Many riders have a tendency to close their hands quickly and pull, giving the horse no time to process what's happening.

Try this instead: close your hands slowly, hold, and wait for your horse to give. When you can allow time for your horse to understand and willingly give, the difference is truly amazing. It’s your path to real partnership.
