JONATHAN FIELD

Jonathan is an internationally acclaimed horseman, clinician, presenter, mentor, and author dedicated to helping people become better with horses.

With a diverse equestrian background, exceptional teaching skills, and a commitement to meaningful change, he's a sought-after presenter and clinician at top events across North America.

A foundation specialist, Jonathan focuses on developing feel—the ability to read and respond to the horse—on the ground, under saddle, and at liberty. Rooted in classical principles, his program emphasizes healthy biomechanics and the horse's mental and physical well-being.

It's the foundation every horse and horse person should have—for any discipline or activity.

Jonathan's methods go beyond technique, inspiring a way of being that leads to true, lasting change for horses and riders.

Foundation Fundamentals

This clinic is built for riders who want real progress through repetition, structure and a full immersion experience.  

Over three days, we'll work through a blend of groundwork and riding concepts and exercises that focus on the foundations that create a safer, softer and more willing horse.

We'll cover key skills such as:

  • Reading & understanding behaviour
  • Building clarity in your communication
  • Working through Jonathan's training scale
  • Improving your horse's balance, posture & self-carriage
  • Equitation tips and building real confidence while you ride
  • Developing a more comfortable canter 

Every Clinic Is Unique

Some lessons may be focused on more than others, including topics not listed. 

If a particular goal is important to you, please mention so at the beginning of the clinic.

Format

An Immersive Experience

This clinic will run in a half-day format.

Private clinics like this offer direct coaching from Jonathan, group learning, as well as a front row seat to observe others being coached, and time to practice in between.

Participants will be broken into two groups and will remain in their respective group for all 3 days:

Group 1 (AM)

Group 2 (PM)

 

*Please note - to respect the privacy of all participants, video recording is not permitted during the clinic.

What To Expect

Ground Skills + Riding

To keep the clinic running smooth and help you get the most out of each session, please come prepared based on the daily focus below:

Day One - 80% Ground / 20% Riding. The morning session will be exclusively groundwork (no saddles).

Day Two - 50% Ground + 50 % Riding Arrive saddled. The session will likely be half groundwork / riding.

Day Three - More Riding: Arrive saddled. Short ground warm-up, then more riding.

 

*The daily balance of groundwork and riding may shift based on the needs of the horses and riders in attendance.

 INDOOR & OUTDOOR ARENAS

Limited bleacher seating available or bring your own chair. Heated arena. No pets allowed. 

STABLING

Indoor stalls available at $35/day (includes shavings). Bring your own hay and feed.

ACCOMMODATIONS

No camping on-site due to municipal bylaw.

FOOD & DRINK

Bring your own food and drink. Complementary coffee and tea provided.

WHAT TO BRING

Your horse, a halter, a lead rope, bridle, saddle & saddle pad, your own hay/feed, a chair, and a notepad & pen (optional).
